The Embassy of the Netherlands in New Zealand is commemorating the 375 years anniversary of Abel Tasman’s arrival in New Zealand. Abel Tasman’s four months voyage of exploration into unchartered territories, in an era without GPS, placed New Zealand on the maps of the world.
We warmly invite you to partake in the Embassy’s special public events to celebrate the Dutch spirit of exploration and drive for innovation!
Peter Blasdale documented the commemoration of Abel Tasman’s “First Encounter 375” in New Zealand. Descendants of Maori, who lived in Golden Bay/Mohua in 1642 (Ngati Tumatakokiri), met with the descendants of Abel Tasman. Enjoy the creative ways of how this shared history was honored.
