Activating your DigiD via a video call if you live outside the Netherlands
To activate your DigiD, you will need an activation code. If you live abroad, you can get your activation code in a video call with a Netherlands Worldwide staff member. Make an appointment and find out what you need for the appointment.
- The collection code that you received by text message and email after you applied for your DigiD. The collection code is made up of 9 digits and starts with a ‘B’. It is valid for 30 days. If you don’t have a collection code or if the code has expired, you will need to apply again for a DigiD.
- Your DigiD username and password If you’ve forgotten your DigiD username and/or password you will need to apply again for a DigiD.
- A valid passport or identity card. Copies are not accepted.
- Your Dutch citizen service number (BSN), if it is not shown in your passport or on your identity card. Read where you can find your BSN.
- The phone you can be reached on using the number you gave in your DigiD application. During your appointment, you’ll receive a text message (SMS) on this number containing your activation code.
You must conduct the video call in person
You must conduct the video call yourself in order to receive the activation code. You can have someone with you to help. If you want to receive an activation code for your child, the child must also be present during the video call. Children aged 14 and over can conduct the video call on their own.
After making an appointment you will receive a confirmation email with instructions. The email will contain a link you can use to connect to the video call. A few minutes before the appointment time, click the link to start the video call.
