Activating DigiD from abroad
If you want to activate a DigiD from outside the Netherlands, you will need an activation code. There are two ways to activate a DigiD: via the DigiD website or the DigiD app. The advantage of using the app is that you can activate your DigiD and the DigiD app at the same time.
- Go to https://digid.nl/en/activeren
- Enter your username and password.
- Click ‘Log in’.
- If you have chosen text message (SMS) verification, you will receive a text message with a code.
- Fill in the code you received in the text message (it usually fills itself in automatically).
- Click ‘Next’.
- Enter the activation code.
- Click ‘Activate’.
- You can now log in to DigiD using your username and password and a code sent to you by text message.
After activating your DigiD
After activating your DigiD, you can also activate the DigiD app on your phone or tablet. The DigiD app is the easiest way to log in securely. Instead of logging in with your username and password, you use a self-selected PIN.
- Download the DigiD app
- Open the DigiD app and click ‘Next’.
- Fill in your username and the password you set during your application and click ‘Next’.
- If you have chosen text message (SMS) verification, you will receive a text message with a code.
a. Fill in the code you received in the text message (it usually fills itself in automatically).
b. Click ‘Next’. - Enter the activation code.
- Choose a PIN, then repeat the PIN to confirm it.
- Your DigiD and the DigiD app are now activated.
- You can now log in via the DigiD app using a PIN. Depending on the type of phone you have, you may be able to log in using facial recognition or your fingerprint.
After activating your DigiD
After you activate your DigiD via the DigiD app, you can add the ID check to the DigiD app. You will need a valid Dutch identity document to do this. After you add the ID check to the DigiD app, you can log in to any organisation that uses DigiD login.
