Logging in to government organisations in the Netherlands
You can use DigiD to log in to organisations such as:
- the Tax Administration (Belastingdienst)
- the Social Insurance Bank (SVB)
- the Education Executive Agency (DUO)
- municipalities
- care institutions
- educational institutions
- pension funds.
Logging in to government organisations in other European countries
DigiD is a recognised means of eID. You can use DigiD to log in to many government organisations in other European countries.
You can also apply for a DigiD if you are currently living abroad or in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. For this you need a citizen service number (BSN).

You can log in using the following methods:
The DigiD app is the easiest way to log in securely to government organisations. You log in via your telephone or tablet using a self-selected PIN. Depending on the type of phone you have, you may be able to log in using facial recognition or your fingerprint.
Your DigiD will expire if you do not use if for 3 years. You will receive a notification from DigiD 30 days before your DigiD expires.
If you are currently living abroad or in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, you can authorise someone to manage your affairs with the Dutch government. Or, you can be authorised to manage someone else’s affairs with the Dutch government.

You are not required to use DigiD.
If you need to manage your affairs with a government organisation but do not want to use DigiD, contact the organisation in question and ask about the alternatives.
