Logging in with DigiD from abroad using your username and password
If you are currently living abroad or in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, and want to log in with DigiD, many organisations no longer allow you to use just your username and password. Instead, you can log in with the DigiD app using a code sent to you by text message.

You can only add SMS verification to your DigiD if you have activated the DigiD app. Select the situation that applies to you:
If you have activated the DigiD app
Follow these steps
- Open your DigiD app.
- Enter your PIN.
- Tap the menu icon (top left).
- Tap ‘My DigiD’.
- Tap ‘To My DigiD’ (under ‘Other data’).
- Tap ‘Confirm’.
- Under ‘Login methods’, tap ‘Using Username and password’
- Tap ‘Activate SMS verification’
- Tap ‘Directly via the DigiD app’
- Follow the steps in the DigiD app.
If you have not activated the DigiD app
If you have not yet activated the DigiD app, you cannot add SMS verification to your DigiD. You will need to apply for a new DigiD. Your telephone number will be linked to your new DigiD, so you can use SMS verification.
