I’ve forgotten my DigiD username or password

If you live outside the Netherlands or in the Caribbean Netherlands, and you’ve forgotten your DigiD username or password, find out what you can do.

Username

If you’ve forgotten your DigiD username you can find your username in the DigiD app. If you don’t yet use the DigiD app, recover your username via the DigiD website.

To look up your username in the DigiD app, follow these instructions:

  1. Open your own DigiD app and log in.
  2. Tap the menu in the upper left corner of the DigiD app.
  3. Tap ‘My DigiD’.
  4. Tap ‘ To My DigiD’.
  5. My DigiD will open. You can see your username here.
Attention: If you don’t yet use the DigiD app, or if you can’t log in using the DigiD app, you can’t use this method to reset your password.

To recover your username via the DigiD website, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to Recover your DigiD username
  2. Click ‘By entering personal data’. 
  3. Click ‘Next’.
  4. Enter your citizen service number (BSN) and DigiD password. Read where you can find your BSN.
  5. Click ‘Next’. 
  6. You will receive a code by email. Enter the code and click ‘Next’.
  7. A code will be sent to your phone by text message. Enter this code and click ‘Next’. 
  8. Your username will be displayed on the screen.
Attention: The codes will be sent to the email address and telephone number linked to your DigiD. If you cannot access this email address and/or telephone number any more, or if you’ve forgotten your DigiD password, you can’t use this method to recover your username.

Password

If you've forgotten your password, you can reset it in My DigiD using the DigiD app. If you don’t yet use the DigiD app, reset your password by email and text message.

If you wish to reset your password using the DigiD app, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to My DigiD and log in with the DigiD app
  2. Click ‘More details’ under 'With username and password'.
  3. Click ‘Change password’.
  4. Choose ‘I can't remember my current password and want to reset my password via the DigiD app’ 
  5. Enter your new password two times.
  6. Open the DigiD app and click ‘Connection code’.
  7. Enter the connection code that appears in the DigiD app on your computer.
  8. Scan the QR code with your DigiD app and click ‘Confirm’.
  9. Your password has been reset.
Attention: If you don’t yet use the DigiD app, or if you can’t log in using the DigiD app, you can’t use this method to reset your password.

You can reset your DigiD password using codes received by email and text message. Follow these instructions:

  1. Go to DigiD Reset password.
  2. Enter your citizen service number (BSN) and DigiD username. Read where you can find your BSN.
  3. Enter the code you receive by email.
  4. Enter the code sent to your telephone.
  5. Change your password.
Attention: The codes will be sent to the email address and telephone number linked to your DigiD. If you cannot access this email address and/or telephone number any more, or have not yet activated your DigiD, you can’t use this method to reset your password.

Troubleshooting

If you cannot look up or reset your username and/or password, apply for a new DigiD. Your data will not be lost if you apply for a new DigiD.
