Renewing your Dutch passport or ID card, or applying for one in the United Kingdom

If you live in the United Kingdom and want to renew your Dutch passport or ID card or apply for one for yourself or your child for the first time, follow this step-by-step plan.

Step 1: Create your personal checklist

You need several documents to apply for a Dutch passport or ID card. Complete this questionnaire and you will receive a personalized checklist as a result. It tells you exactly which documents you need for your application.

Checklist for applying for a Dutch passport or ID card

Step 2: Print your checklist

Have you completed the questionnaire in Step 1 and created your checklist? Download and print your checklist using the ‘Download result (PDF)’ button in Step 1. You will need your checklist for your application. Are you applying for multiple passports or ID cards? Create a separate checklist for each application.

Step 3: Collect your documents

Collect all the documents listed on your printed checklist from Step 1. You will need these documents for your application.

Attention: If your Dutch passport or ID card is with the Home Office, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) or Student Finance, ask them to return it to you. You cannot apply for a new passport or ID card without it.

Step 4: Make an appointment

Have you collected all the documents from your checklist? Then you can make an appointment. You can do this in the United Kingdom or in the Netherlands. Are you applying for multiple people? Or are you applying for both a passport and an ID card? Make a separate appointment for each person and for each document.

Attention: If you are not able to make an appointment, try again later, as slots may become available due to cancellations or re-scheduling.

Are you having your new passport sent to you? Then you must first send your old passport to the embassy. Only then will your new passport be sent to you.
