Applying for a certificate of marital status in Ecuador

Are you a Dutch national, do you live in Ecuador and do you need a declaration of marital status (certificado de estado civil)? You can request this certificate by sending an email from the Dutch embassy in Lima, Peru.  After which you can collect the ceritifcate at the honorary consul in Quito or Guayaquil.

Warning: If you are registered in the Personal Records Database (BRP) in the Netherlands, apply for this document from the municipality where you are registered. You may need to have the declaration/certificate translated and legalised before you can use it outside the Netherlands.

To apply for a certificate by email, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Gather the documents that you need

To apply for a certificate of marital status, you will need to provide various documents. Which documents you need to provide depends on your situation. You may need to have your documents translated and legalised.

You may need to have non-Dutch documents translated and legalised.

Do you have all the required documents? Then make a pdf of each document. A photo of your documents is not allowed.

Step 2: Email the documents to the embassy

Send an email to the the Dutch embassy in Lima:

In your email you should state:

  • the type of document you need (in the subject line)
  • your initials and surname (in the subject line)
  • your phone number
  • why you need the certificate. This will be included on the certificate.
  • honorary consul where you want to collect the certificate: in Quito or Guayaquil

Attach the required documents to your email as PDFs.

You may be asked to send extra documents if your application is not complete, if anything is unclear or we have questions.

Step 3: Pay the fee

The fee for a consular certificate is €30. You pay the fee when you collect your certificate.

Step 4: Receive the certificate

After receiving your application, it takes an average of 10 working days to process your application. Do you need to send additional documents because your applicant is not complete? Then it will take longer.

You will be notified when you can collect the certificate.
