Voting by proxy from abroad

If you are registered as a Dutch voter abroad, you can arrange for someone in the Netherlands to vote on your behalf in the elections for the House of Representatives or the European Parliament. You must apply to the municipality of The Hague for authorisation to vote by proxy.

Attention: To vote in the Dutch parliamentary elections on 22 November 2023, your complete application for authorisation to vote by proxy must be received by the municipality of The Hague by 11 October 2023.

If you want to arrange for someone in the Netherlands to vote on your behalf, you must apply for authorisation to do so on the website of the municipality of The Hague.

Attention: An authorisation to vote by proxy is valid for a single election. So for future elections you will need to reapply for authorisation if you again wish to have someone vote on your behalf.

Voting as a proxy

The municipality of The Hague will send the certificate of authorisation (volmachtbewijs) to the person you have authorised to vote on your behalf (the proxy voter).That person must show proof of ID at the polling station in a Dutch municipality. They must cast your vote at the same time as they cast their own vote. A person can be a proxy voter for up to two people.

Other ways to vote

You can also vote from abroad by post. If you are in the Netherlands at the time of the elections for the House of Representatives or the European Parliament, you can vote in a Dutch municipality.
