How much surviving dependants’ benefit will I receive outside the Netherlands?

Surviving dependants’ benefit is a fixed amount. If you live outside the Netherlands, and you have health insurance via the CAK, your benefit amount will be lower. Your income may also affect the amount you receive.

Maximum surviving dependants’ benefit amounts

Each year the Dutch government sets the maximum amounts for surviving dependants’ benefit. Your benefit amount may be lower if you live outside the Netherlands. This depends on your personal situation.

I have health insurance via the CAK

If you are covered by a reciprocal healthcare agreement, you pay a compulsory fixed monthly contribution to the CAK. The Netherlands covers the costs of healthcare you receive in the country where you live.

This contribution is deducted from your surviving dependants’ benefit. The amount of your contribution depends on your income and where you live. On the CAK website you can fill in your details to get an estimate of your contribution amount (information in Dutch).

I have income

Some types of income are partially deducted from your surviving dependants’ benefit. This includes salary or business profits.

Attention: The amount of orphans’ benefit a person receives is not affected by their income.
