How can I file an income tax return in the Netherlands if I live abroad?

Even if you live outside the Netherlands you can file an income tax return in the Netherlands. In most cases, you can file a tax return online. In some cases, you have to submit a form.

Attention:

If you live outside the Netherlands in the year for which you want to file a tax return, you cannot use the tax return app.

Tip: if you have difficulty completing your tax return, you may be able to get help (information in Dutch).

How to file a tax return

File your tax return before 1 May

Are you subject to foreign tax and are you required to file a tax return in the Netherlands? In that case, your tax return must have been filed with the Tax Administration before 1 May. You can ask the Tax Administration for a postponement until 1 May (information in Dutch).

Send a personal income statement with your tax return

If you meet the conditions to use Dutch tax benefits and wish to use them, you must send a personal income statement to the Tax Administration when you file your tax return.
