My Dutch benefit is stopping. How will it affect my health insurance via the CAK?

Notify the CAK if your benefit is stopping. If you receive an AOW pension, you can keep your health insurance via the CAK. If you no longer receive income from the Netherlands, you must take out new insurance.

Notifying the CAK if your benefit is stopping

If your benefit stops, you must notify the CAK. You can do so using the contact form on the CAK website or by sending a letter to the CAK. By notifying the CAK in a timely manner that your benefit is stopping you can avoid having to pay back any healthcare costs at a later date.

Your benefit is changing to an AOW pension

If your benefit is changing to an AOW pension, you can keep your health insurance via the CAK. However, due to your new situation, your premium may change. See an estimate of your new premium (in Dutch) by filling in your information on the CAK website.

You no longer receive income from the Netherlands

If you no longer receive income from the Netherlands (i.e. a Dutch pension or benefit), you no longer meet the conditions for reciprocal healthcare. In that case you must take out health insurance in the country where you are living.
