Applying for a certificate of marital status in Australia
Are you a Dutch national living in Australia and do you need a certificate of marital status (single status certificate)? The Dutch consulate-general in Sydney does not issue this certificate. In Australia you can get this certificate from the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM).
Warning: If you are registered in the Personal Records Database (BRP) in the Netherlands, apply for this document from the municipality where you are registered. You may need to have the declaration/certificate translated and legalised before you can use it outside the Netherlands.
You can request a statement that you are not married through the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages of the Australian government. Each state has its own registry.
- New South Wales: New South Wales Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages
- Victoria: Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria
- Queensland: Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages
- South Australia: South Australia Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages
- Western Australia: Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages Western Australia
- Tasmania: Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages Tasmania
- Northern Territory: Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages Northern Territory
