Frequently asked questions
Are you a Dutch citizen stranded in the Middle East? And have you previously completed the Crisis Contact Form? If so, you may receive a call from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs with an automated message.
In this message, we will ask whether you are still in the country and whether you would still like to make use of the Dutch government's assistance with departure options.
Good to know: you will be called from an anonymous number. It is therefore important that you answer your phone when you receive a call from an anonymous number.
This call campaign will give the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affair a more accurate picture of the number of Dutch travellers stranded in the Middle East who still need assistance. This will enable us to provide them with better and faster support in leaving the crisis area.
Please use the Crisis Contact Form to let us know as soon as possible that you do not want to take the flight. Indicate which flight and date you were called for and that you want to be removed from the list. Submit the change via the button “Already registered? Report a change”.
You must indicate via the Crisis Contact Form that you would still like to be considered for a flight. You can do this by clicking on the button “Already registered? Report a change”.
Sign up for the Information Service (information in Dutch). This will enable the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to send you information and contact you if necessary.
To change or add to your details, go to the Crisis Contact Form and click on “Already registered? Report a change”. Use the reference number you received by email when you registered.
You need the following information to register:

To register your travel group, you need the following details for your travel companions:

Our help is only for Dutch travelers who are temporarily visiting the country. Do you live in that country? Then you usually know better how things work there. Dutch travelers often do not. They may not know the country well and may not have the right contacts. This can make them more vulnerable.
If you live in the country and have an emergency, you can still get normal consular help from the Dutch government. Please note: if a country has an orange or red travel advice, the Dutch embassy may be less able to help you. In some cases, the embassy may not be able to help at all if you get into trouble.
No, please do not register again. This causes duplicate entries in the system and ultimately leads to significant delays in the assessment process. If you would like to modify your registration or upload a document, please go to the Crisis Contact Form and click the button “Already registered? Submit a change.”
Only travel to an airport if you have been called by us and we have made specific arrangements with you for a particular flight. You can only join a repatriation flight if you are on the list for that specific flight. If you have not been called and no arrangements have been made with you, going to the airport will be pointless, as unfortunately you will not be able to board. Seats on the aircraft are reserved exclusively for individuals who have been contacted by us.
Please note: Sometimes we are unable to reach you by phone, and you may later see a missed call on your phone. We always try to contact you several times. Even if you have missed a call, do not go to the airport on your own initiative. You may only travel on a repatriation flight if we have spoken with you and you have agreed to the offer.
Organizing a repatriation operation is complex and costly. Last year, the Minister of Foreign Affairs decided to request a financial contribution for repatriation flights that are fully organized by the government or, as is currently the case, organized in cooperation with the Dutch travel industry, airlines, and insurers. This contribution covers part of the considerable costs incurred by the government.
The Dutch government requires a personal financial contribution for repatriation flights organized by the national government. Other EU countries organize repatriations in their own way. In some cases, this may mean that no costs are charged. In other cases, a fee must be paid at the airport before departure. In yet other situations, as with the Netherlands, a financial contribution is collected from travelers afterward.
Dutch travelers must sign a declaration committing to the payment obligation before they can board the aircraft.
When we call you with the offer to travel on a repatriation flight, you will be asked whether you agree to pay the financial contribution. The contribution is € 600 per person. This amount must be paid by everyone aged 2 years or older. If you agree, we will record this in our database.
You do not have to pay the amount until you have returned to the Netherlands. However, before departure you will be asked to complete and sign a document stating that you will pay the amount. In doing so, you enter into a payment obligation. Within a few weeks, you will receive the invoice at your home address in the Netherlands and can then transfer the amount.
The crisis in the Middle East also poses an increased risk of phishing.
What can you do?
- Only use reliable sources, such as websites of the British government or the government of the country you are in.
- Be cautious with messages about the crisis. Check carefully who sent the message.
- Never click on links in an email, text message, WhatsApp message or QR code if you do not trust them.
- Read the information What can I do to prevent phishing? on the website of the Dutch government (information in Dutch).
To change your country, go to the Crisis Contact Form and click “Already registered? Report a change.”
Use the reference number you received by email when you registered. Tell them that you have gone to another country and say which country it is. If you have left the region and are now in a safe country, you can cancel your registration in the Crisis Contact Form.
We will call you from a private (unknown) number. Make sure your phone does not automatically block unknown numbers. If you do not answer, we may try to call you again.
This form is only for travelers who are stranded in 12 countries in the Middle East. Are you traveling through the Middle East, for example from Asia, and your flight cannot continue? Then do not fill in this form.
Instead, contact your airline, travel company, or insurance company. We understand this is frustrating, but we cannot help you further.
Are you traveling with your Dutch core family? Then you only have to complete the Crisis Contact Form once. You can fill in the personal details of your travel group in the same form.
You will remain registered in the Crisis Contact Form. The email from the Information Service does not affect your crisis registration.
You received the automatic message from the Information Service because your original departure date has now passed. Five days after your originally planned departure date, the Information Service automatically sends you a message. If you do nothing, your registration for the Information Service will be removed. Would you like to continue receiving messages from the Information Service? If so, please update your details. Go to the Information Service (information in Dutch) and use the ‘wijzingen’ (change) button. If this does not work, you can register again using the ‘Aanmelden' (register) button.
