Renewing your driving licence in Ireland?
If you live in Ireland and your Dutch driving licence has expired, you cannot renew it. You must exchange your Dutch licence for an Irish licence.
Exchanging your driving licence
You can exchange your Dutch driving licence for an Irish licence at the National Driver Licence Service. You will not need to retake your driving test.
Driving licence lost or stolen?
If your Dutch driving licence has been lost or stolen you must apply for an Irish driving licence. You can do so at the National Driver Licence Service.
If you are no longer in possession of your Dutch driving license, you need a certificate of authenticity (information in Dutch). This certificate is issued by the Road Transport Agency (RDW). It shows whether your driving licence is listed in the Central Driving Licences Register. The certificate is in English. You do not need to have it legalised.
You can download a statement of loss (PDF, 75kb) (information in Dutch) and send it to the Road Transport Agency (RDW). This will prevent unauthorised use of your driving licence.
