Can I get an urgent visa for the Netherlands?
You can only get an urgent visa in emergency situations. For example, for the funeral of an immediate family member. You can only apply to the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) for an urgent visa under certain strict conditions.
Check the conditions
You can only apply for an urgent visa in the following situations:
- You want to visit a family member in the first or second degree who is terminally ill.
- You want to attend the funeral of a family member in the first or second degree.
The following people are considered to be family members in the first or second degree:
- Your spouse or registered partner. Or the partner with whom you have a child or a demonstrable relationship.
- Your grandparents, parents, child, brother or sister.
- Your father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law or sister-in-law.
- Your step-parents, step-child, step-brother or step-sister.
Other conditions
You must also meet other conditions. For example, you must have a valid passport or other valid travel document. The IND will assess whether you can apply for an urgent visa. You can find out what the conditions are on the IND website.

Validity of an urgent visa
An urgent visa is only valid for the Netherlands. It does not give you entry to other Schengen countries.
