How long can I visit the Netherlands for?

Language selection:English

How long you can visit the Netherlands for depends on your nationality and whether you need a visa.

National of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland

If you are a national of an European Union (EU country) or of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway (European Economic Area, EEA) or Switzerland, you can visit the Netherlands for 3 months without further conditions. If you wish to stay longer than 3 months, read about the requirements on the website of the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).

National of another country

If you are a national of a non-EU or EEA country other than Switzerland, how long you can visit the Netherlands for depends on whether you need a visa.

Check whether you need a visa

If you do not need a visa for the Netherlands, you may visit for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period. For example, for tourism, business or visiting family.

If you visited the Netherlands or another Schengen country in the past 180 days, use the short-stay calculator on the website van de European Commission to see how many days you have left.

If you need a visa for the Netherlands, you may visit for the number of days specified on your visa, within the period specified.

If you have a multiple-entry visa (MULT) which allows you to travel to the Netherlands more than once, and you visited the Netherlands or another Schengen country in the past 180 days, use the short-stay calculator on the website van de European Commission to see how many days you have left.
