Applying for youth care for your child

Do you want to to apply for youth care (jeugdhulp) for your child? For example, because your child needs extra care or support? You can apply for this at  your municipality. You can also contact a youth team (jeugdteam) directly. A youth team supports young people and their families when they need help with growing up and parenting.

You can use a personal budget (persoonsgebonden budget – PGB) to pay for youth care. A PGB is an amount of money that can be used to purchase care or support for personal reasons.

Contact your municipality for youth care for your child. Your municipality provides advice on youth care and will determine the best kind of support for your child. It will do so together with you and your child. The municipality also ensures that your child has access to youth care.

Every municipality implements its youth support differently. Some municipalities have a neighbourhood team (wijkteam) in each neighbourhood, while others have a youth and family centre (Centrum jeugd en gezin).

You can also directly contact your neighbourhood team. A school, GP or sports club can also refer you. The municipality also has a list of youth teams and neighbourhood teams.

Municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee: Applying for youth care for your child

Youth mental health care is mental health care for children up to the age of 18. These are children who have psychological problems that prevent them from developing well. For example, due to autism, ADHD, dyslexia, addiction or depression. Youth mental health care is aimed at remedying psychological problems or preventing them from getting worse.

Description

The institutions for mental healthcare can offer treatments at home or on location, for example at a school. Sometimes this also happens in a clinic. For example, by having your child undergo treatment in the clinic during the day. Or by admitting your child to the clinic for a certain amount of time. In consultation with the TJG, you can also have your child follow a course. This is especially suitable for children with mild psychological problems. All costs for youth mental health care (up to the age of 18) are paid by the municipality.

The municipality can also give you a personal budget. You can then purchase the help for your child yourself at the institution of your choice.

Do you have a child who needs youth mental health care? Then you report this to the municipality. The professionals of the Youth and Family Team (TJG) of the municipality will work with you to determine what help your child can receive. In certain cases, you must first apply to receive the assistance.

  • You report to the municipality that help is needed with your child's psychological problems.
  • You provide the TJG professional with all the information necessary to determine what help your child will receive.
  • You have a conversation with the municipality and experts about your child's situation.
  • You indicate what you need help with.

You will receive a report a few days after the interview. This will state whether you can get help and if so, which one. You may have to apply for the help first. You will receive a form for this from the municipality.

You can usually get general help right away. If you have submitted an application for youth mental health care, you will be notified as soon as possible whether you will receive the help. This never takes longer than 8 weeks.
