Applying for a parking permit
Do you live in an area where you have to pay to park your car or other vehicle? You can apply to the municipality for a residents’ parking permit (parkeervergunning voor bewoners). If you have a residents' parking permit, you do not have to pay for parking at the parking meter or via a parking app.
A parking permit is registered to a specified vehicle registration number. If you have more than 1 car or other vehicle, you must apply for a separate parking permit for each vehicle.

Here is some information from your municipality.
Parking permit for residents
Do you live in an area where you have to pay to park? Then you can apply for a resident permit. This resident's parking permit is linked to the registration number of your car, motorcycle or microcar.
Zone A, B and C
The paid parking area in Leiden is divided into zones.
- Zone A: center
- Zone B: neighborhoods around the center (the shell neighborhoods)
- Zone C: neighborhoods Hoge Mors, Boshuizen, Fortuinwijk, Vlietpoort and Vlietzone, Oostvliet, Klein Cronestein and Meerburg
Check the city map in which zone you live or look it up in the street name list (pdf, 4.61 mb).
- You are registered with the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP) in one of the zones for which you are applying for the permit.
Please note: if you have recently moved to a new address, you may not be able to apply for a permit right away. - The maximum number of parking permits has not yet been granted at the address where you are registered.
- You live in an independent living space (you do not share the kitchen and bathroom).
- The registration certificate of your car, motorcycle or microcar is in your name or you use a lease car.
- Your vehicle is no longer than 6 meters and no higher than 2.4 meters.
- Your vehicle is not registered as a camper with the RDW.
- You are not registered in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP), but you can demonstrate that you work (= economically bound) and live in Leiden. Then you can apply for a maximum of one resident's permit per address.
A parking permit costs money.
The permit starts immediately after applying for it.
When will I not receive a resident's parking permit?
- Residents must park on their own property in the case of new construction and a change in function of a building. In order to prevent extra parking pressure in the area, (new) residents of new buildings, changes in function, room dividers and division of residential units are not entitled to a resident, visitor and car-sharing parking permit. This applies to homes built or to be built after October 2, 2019.
- In certain areas, residents cannot obtain a resident and visitor parking permit. This concerns the Lammenschansdriehoek – the area bordered by Lammenschansweg, the railway, Kanaalweg and Plantijnstraat – and the site of De Raad Vastgoed (Auction site) – the area bordered by Lammenschansweg, Aprikozenweg, Ananasweg and Perzikweg.

If you have two resident parking permits in zone A or three resident parking permits in zone B, you can keep these permits as long as you continue to live at this address and pay the renewal on time.
