Applying for an Attestatie de vita (Certificate of life) in the Netherlands
The Attestatie de vita is a document that you can use outside the Netherlands to prove that you are alive. Some organizations, such as a pension fund, may request you to produce this document. In the Netherlands you can use the document Bewijs van in leven zijn (Proof of being alive) for the same purpose.
The Attestation de vita is a document in French and Dutch for international use.

Municipality of Houten: Applying for an Attestatie de vita (Certificate of life)
A proof of being alive and an attestatie de vita are the written proof from the municipality that a resident is alive according to the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). You may need this for pension funds, insurers or other paying agencies.
There are two types of documents:
Proof of being alive: This is for use in the Netherlands only.
Attestation de vita: This is for use abroad.
Proof of being alive
If you are registered with the municipality of Houten, you can apply for the certificate digitally or collect it from the town hall counter. Please note! If you need this document for your pension fund, you need to make an appointment.
Attestation de Vita
If you are registered at the municipality of Houten, you can only collect the Attestation de Vita at the desk of the town hall. You need to make an appointment
Bring along for the application
When you have made an appointment at the town hall counter, please bring:
- Valid proof of identity;
- Pin card for payment, if possible;
Are you applying for the declaration or attestation for a pension fund? Then bring the letter from the pension fund stating that this is requested. In this case, the attestation is free of charge.
