Childcare Allowance and Subsidy for Toddler Care

Childcare Allowance

You can request a refund for part of the childcare costs from the Tax Authority. This is called childcare allowance. The amount of the childcare allowance depends on your income and the number of children attending the care. For more information, visit the Tax Authority’s website. There you can also read about the conditions you need to meet. Additionally, you can make a trial calculation to see how much allowance you could receive. You must apply for the childcare allowance yourself at the Tax Authority.

Municipal Subsidy Scheme for Toddler Care and Early Childhood Education

Do you not qualify for childcare allowance? Then you may be eligible for the municipal subsidy scheme when your child uses toddler care. The amount of the subsidy depends on your income.

Conditions

  • Your child is between 2 and 4 years old.
  • Your child lives in the Noordoostpolder municipality.
  • You do not qualify for childcare allowance from the Tax Authority.
  • The childcare organization is located in this municipality (host parents and host parent agencies are excluded from this scheme).
  • The subsidy is for a maximum of 8 hours per week (on average 2 sessions) and for a maximum of 40 weeks per year.

Applications

You as a parent do not apply for the subsidy yourself. The childcare organization your child attends applies for the subsidy on your behalf. You only pay a personal contribution to the childcare, for which they will send you an invoice.

Are there concerns in your family and would childcare be a solution, but you do not qualify for childcare allowance?

If you do not qualify for childcare allowance, a temporary childcare subsidy based on a Social Medical Indication (SMI) might be a solution. You can get a temporary SMI subsidy if there are physical or psychological complaints in your family, which prevent you from fully caring for your children. Use the application form below to apply for SMI. The municipality will look into the possible options with you.
