How can I report the death of someone registered in the Non-residents Records Database?

Language selection:English

If a close relative who is registered in the Non-residents Records Database (RNI) dies, contact the relevant Dutch public sector organisations. If you do not know which organisations the person had dealings with, you can contact the National Office for Identity Data (RvIG).

Reporting a death outside the Netherlands

Report the death to all Dutch public sector organisations that the deceased person had dealings with. For example the Social Insurance Bank (SVB), if the deceased person received state pension (AOW). Or the Tax Administration, Education Executive Agency (DUO), the CAK or the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV). In most cases, you will need to provide a death certificate. The organisation in question will ensure the death is registered in the RNI.

If someone has died outside the Netherlands who do I need to inform?

Contacting the National Office for Identity Data

If you do not know which public sector organisations the deceased person had dealings with, the National Office for Identity Data (RvIG) can check this and offer you advice. You will need to provide a death certificate. The RvIG or the organisation in question will ensure the death is registered in the RNI.

No death certificate

To report a death you usually need a death certificate. If you don’t have one, you should request a death certificate from the local authorities in the country where your relative died. The local Dutch embassy or consulate in that country may be able to help you with this.
