Changing the telephone number used for DigiD from outside the Netherlands

If you wish to link a new telephone number to your DigiD from outside the Netherlands, use the DigiD app or have an SMS sent to your old mobile telephone number.

Changing your telephone number using the DigiD app

You can change your telephone number if you have activated the DigiD app.

  1. Log in to Mijn DigiD.
  2. Select ‘Change phone number’.
  3. Select ‘Via the DigiD app’.
  4. Enter your new telephone number.
  5. Enter the code you receive in the login screen.
  6. Open the DigiD app and press ‘Start’.
  7. A verification code will appear in the DigiD app.
  8. Enter the verification code.
  9. Scan the QR code with the DigiD app.
  10. Enter your PIN in the DigiD app.
  11. Your telephone number has been changed.

Changing your telephone number by having an SMS sent to your old mobile phone number

If you can still receive SMS messages on your old number, follow these instructions to change your telephone number:

  1. Log in to Mijn DigiD.
  2. Select ‘Change phone number’.
  3. Select ‘Via an SMS to my old telephone number’.
  4. Re-enter your password.
  5. You will receive an SMS code on your old telephone number.
  6. Enter the code.
  7. Enter your new telephone number.
  8. You will receive an SMS code on your new number.
  9. Enter the code.
  10. Your telephone number has been changed.

What if I don’t have the app or an old mobile number?

If you don’t have the DigiD app or access to your old mobile telephone you can only change your telephone number by applying for a new DigiD. You will need to go to a DigiD collection point to activate your new DigiD.
