Applying for a passport or ID card in Rotorua on 24 August 2021 (Cancelled)

The New Zealand government has extended the lockdown for the entire country until Tuesday August 24, 2021. Therefore the visit to Rotorua from the consular team from the Dutch embassy in Wellington is cancelled. The information evening is called off as well. 

The consular team from the Dutch embassy in Wellington will be visiting Rotorua on 24 August 2021, where you will be able to apply for a Dutch passport or ID card and activate your DigiD. The consular team will also host an information evening afterwards, which you can register for in the link below. We will provide information regarding Dutch nationality law, dual nationality, your DigiD and more.

Making an appointment

Passport and ID card

  • Make an appointment using our online appointment system.
  • Choose the category 'Travel document at a location other than the embassy'.
  • Choose the correct date '24 August 2021'.
  • Make a separate appointment for each person.
  • See these instructions if you are having difficulty.

If you get the notification 'no time slots available', this means the maximum number of appointments has been reached.

Please keep in mind that your new ID card will not be sent by post. You can only collect it at the embassy in Wellington.

You can pick up your DigiD activation code without an appointment between 11:00 and 15:00 hours.

Apply for DigiD on You will then receive a collection code by email and SMS. You will need this code to collect your activation code. Read more about applying for DigiD on the page How do I apply for DigiD from abroad.


Pay in person when you submit your passport or ID card application. Payment can be made by Eftpos, Mastercard or Visa. See the overview of consular fees in New Zealand for information on the costs of a passport or ID card.

As of Monday 2 August all passport applications done at a pop-up consular desk require an additional fee of $38,00. This fee is applicable to all applications, also minors.


The photo used for a passport or ID card must meet certain requirements. Read more about these requirements and where you can have the photograph taken.

Information evening
