Dutch Fruit Solutions Kazakhstan - great example of Kazakhstan-Netherlands cooperation

Do you know that despite the global pandemic, the work of Dutch companies does not stop, but continues at full speed?

Today we would like to share with you a short news story on the progress of one Dutch public-private partnership project in the fruit growing sector of Kazakhstan called “Dutch Fruit Solutions Kazakhstan”.

The project is being implemented under financial support of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is represented by the Kazakh National Agrarian University (KazNAU) on the Kazakh side and a group of 14 Dutch companies active in the fruit growing sector of the Netherlands on the Dutch side.

The project foresees the creation of a demo-plot with a high-tech fruit orchard that will be located on the territory of the Agrouniversity Experimental Farm of the KazNAU in Talgar district of Almaty Oblast.

Due to the current situation with the coronavirus outbreak, many businesses around the world have either put on hold or cancelled many projects and activities. On the contrary, all works under this project actually have never stopped and only continue going at full speed as the coronavirus pandemic has been unfolding.

During the introduction of complete lockdown and strict quarantine measures in many countries, including the Netherlands and Kazakhstan, the Dutch participants of the project were able to ship propagation materials (young fruit trees and berry plants), equipment and field laboratory from the Netherlands to Kazakhstan without any delays. In parallel, their Kazakh counterparts prepared the demo plot for planting, had construction works done, installed concrete poles and irrigation system and started with first planting works.

Despite all the challenges in these turbulent times, we can now see beautiful rows on the demo plot planted with cherries, plums, apples, pears, strawberries, red currant, blueberries and even asparagus. All these plants have got acclimated and hopefully, they will survive their first season in Kazakhstan.

Both the Dutch and Kazakh partners have done a very good and professional job to make it all happen.

Here, a special thank you also goes to four Kazakh companies for their support and excellent services to the project: Alem Agro Holding LLP, KosAgroKommerce LLP, UniFruit LLP and Bereke LLP. To Alem Agro Holding and KosAgroKommerce for their generous contribution and provision of fertilizers and plants treatment products on a free basis. To UniFruit for their diligent work on installation of concrete poles to support young trees and for keeping all the plants alive in their cold storages before planting. To Bereke LLP for their outstanding service on construction of  all the necessary infrastructure for the project (electricity, water, road, fence, etc.) and water basin installation.
