Voting from Ethiopia for the European Elections 2019

The European Parliament elections will be held on 23 May 2019. As a Dutch citizen living abroad you have the right to vote in these elections via postal vote or by authorizing someone in the Netherlands.

To be able to vote from abroad, you must be registered as a voter with the municipality of The Hague. You can register until 11 April 2019 via this link. In case you are already permanently registered as voter abroad, you can inform the municipality of a potential change in address until 21 March 2019.

As the postal service in Ethiopia can be somewhat unpredictable, we recommend to have your ballot paper send to you by E-mail rather than traditional mail. The voter’s pass you will still receive by traditional mail, but this will be send earlier.

If you are interested, it is possible to use the Embassy as postal address. In that case, your voter’s pass will be send to Ethiopia by diplomatic courier. You can use the following address:

Ambassade Addis Abeba
Postbus 12200
2500 DD Den Haag

Starting from 15 March 2019, you can call +251(0)113170360 to check if the documents have arrived, which you should then collect yourself at the Embassy. The sooner you register, the better. The completed voting documents should be handed in at the Embassy before 14 May 5:00 PM, to be send back to the Netherlands by diplomatic courier. Once again, the sooner you hand in the documents, the better. Making use of this service will be your own responsibility, the Embassy does not accept accountability for the correct sending of the documents.

You can also consider authorizing someone in the Netherlands. More information about this can be found on the website of the municipality of The Hague .
