Dutch Days in Danang photo story
In 2018, the Netherlands and Vietnam are celebrating that our diplomatic relations were established 45 years ago. The Embassy and Consulate-General of the Netherlands will showcase the Netherlands as a modern partner for sustainable and innovative solutions in a number of important cities throughout Vietnam. Danang, ‘the City of Bridges’, is Vietnam’s fourth largest city and of increasing economic importance. During the two Dutch Days (25-26 May 2018), the Embassy and Consulate-General gave extra attention to opportunities for Dutch businesses in this city, and connected to the local population through cultural and social events.
The Dutch Days in Da Nang started with a meeting between the Consul General of the Netherlands, Mr. Carel Richter and Vice Chairman of Da Nang’s People Committee, Mr. Hồ Kỳ Minh. During the meeting, Consul General Richter expressed his admiration for Da Nang not only for its vibrant development, but also for the city’s efforts and future plan in accomplishing environmental sustainability.
This meeting was followed by an interactive seminar in the afternoon where businesses of both countries could meet, share business ideas and discuss possible cooperation on future projects.
Well-known Dutch companies like Royal Haskoning DHV, Philips, Akzo Nobel, Witteveen+Bos brought to the seminar many interesting cases of how businesses can contribute to sustainability and add value to common well-being.
After the seminar the Orange networking reception took place. The reception was next to the iconic and beautiful Han River.
As one of the most dynamic cities in Vietnam with remarkable growth and a hotspot for foreign investment, Da Nang was chosen the first destination for the Dutch Days with the theme “Sustainable investment and Smart cities”
Since the first days, the friendship of Vietnam and the Netherlands has always been about the people. The second day of Dutch Days in Da Nang was dedicated to the public audience of the coastal city with a range of cultural activities.
To kick off the Dutch Days on Saturday, Consul General Carel Richter & a representative of the People's Committee gave welcoming speeches.
Early in the morning, the city center was brightened up with an orange bike ride carrying the logo and messages of the 45 years celebration, drawing a crowd to the Library of General Sciences where the main event took place.
Consul Mr. Frank de Laat tells a story about the Netherlands and engages the audience with a fun quiz on the Netherlands.
There were many activities for children, such as arts and crafts and quizzes. By completing the quiz on the Netherlands you could win Dutch prizes!
Thank you to our sponsors, Da Nang People’s Committee, other partners and our dear volunteers who made the Dutch Day in Da Nang possible!
