The importance of visual content in your marketing strategy and how to start with it

We asked Emile Leus from TV workshop, a company that specializes in visual content which is also very active in Singapore, to learn us more about the importance of it. Today, we will share his insights!

The use of visual communication continues to grow. So much so, that eighty-four percent of all marketing communication is predicted to be visual by 2019. From a scientific perspective, it’s been found that using visuals help the audience remember the information more effectively. The reason is that images are directly deposited and stored into the long-term memory, whereas words only make it to the short-term memory.

Some facts:

90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual.

The brain processes visual information 60,000 times faster than text.

40% of people respond better to an image than 1,000 words.

How to successfully start producing your own Social media video content in a nutshell:

      Who is your community?

Communicate with your community with video

Set goals, what do you want to achieve in what period of time?

Corporate films, vlogs, commercials, how to choose the right format to achieve your goals

      Get started!

The most credible way to communicate is video as is it represents a face to face dialogue in the most natural way. But until recently it was a very expensive way with limited channels to publish. This has changed drastically the last decade and therefore video as a medium and its publishing channels are evolving fast.

To choose the channels where you want to publish your video messages, vlogs, commercials, etc… it is evident to get a detailed picture who you target audience is and on what channels they can be found. This research is an ongoing process as people like to move from platforms like Facebook to Instagram and to Snapchat, back to your WordPress site and YouTube.

Just like any other project it is recommendable to set goals to measure the success of your effort to communicate with your audience. Goals can be for example:

1.     Number of views

2.     Number of likes

3.     Number of shares

4.     Number of replies

All this is what we call “engagement” And this is exactly the key to measure the success of your strategy. The number of views is the least impressive of the four. I would recommend to measure in shares and even more replies.

What format should you choose?

Similar to the channels above the best way is a multi-format way. Short video content for Snapchat and longer videos for your blogs on Youtube and Vimeo.

Quality over quantity

I have seen successful blogs bleed dry of over-publishing less engaging content. Set measurable targets to what quality standard each video has to comply. Train the people who create the content and hire professionals to train them is my advice. To create genuine content it needs to be produced or co-produced by your own staff.

Be patient

It will take time to until the published content will take effect on your target audience. In the meantime your team can work on quality improvements. When set goals start with 1 month and 6 month goals.

Discover organic and paid promotion of your content

Organic traffic to your content is free but not always cheaper to reach people. Discover and learn the way to promote content on the platforms your publish. For example on Facebook you can get 10k impressions of an ad for just 20 USD. Insight in revenue or other ratio on “ad spend” can really boost your results with exactly the same budget.
