Minister Koenders: Bolt and Follender released in Colombia
Dutch journalists Derk Bolt and Eugenio Follender were released today in the extremely volatile region of Catatumbo in the north of Colombia. They are doing reasonably well under the circumstances. The Dutch ambassador has been able to speak to Bolt and Follender. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed their families in the Netherlands.
From the outset, the Netherlands worked alongside the Colombian authorities to resolve this kidnapping case as quickly as possible. Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders thanked the Colombian government for its efforts and everyone else who contributed to ending the drama. ’We were in touch with the Colombians throughout. They worked very hard for this positive outcome. I deeply appreciate and thank them for their efforts,’ said Mr Koenders.
The foreign minister expressed his relief at the release of Bolt and Follender. ‘This is very good news. I am extremely happy that the kidnapping has ended this quickly,’ he said.
