Requesting a decision on an advance on benefits

Are you waiting for a decision on your application for social assistance benefit (bijstandsuitkering) or supplementary income provision for the elderly (aanvullende inkomensvoorziening ouderenAIO)? Have you not yet received an advance, or is the amount of the advance too low? Then you can apply to your province for a provision of immediate assistance (voorziening onverwijlde bijstand). The province will then decide whether you get an advance or that the amount received will be increased.

This is how it works for you

Here is some information from your province.

Decision on requesting an advance payment (provision for immediate social assistance)

You need money to live. If you apply for benefits, it takes a little time before you receive money. To receive benefits, the municipality must first assess your application. For supplementary benefits for older people, the Sociale Verzekeringsbank –SVB (Social Insurance Bank) must first assess your application.

Sometimes it may take 4 weeks or more before you receive a decision. You still have to pay your bills and buy food during this time. You can therefore receive an advance payment. You can receive an advance payment from 4 weeks after you have applied for benefits. You will then receive some benefits money in advance. If you go on to receive benefits, the advance payment will be recovered.

Will the municipality or SVB not grant you an advance payment? Or is the amount too low? Ask us for immediate assistance. We will then decide whether you will receive an advance payment. Are you right in our view? The municipality or SVB must then grant or increase the advance payment immediately.

You can apply for a decision on an advance payment under these conditions:

  • You have applied for one of these benefits: social assistance with the municipality aanvullende bijstand voor ouderen – AIO (supplementary assistance for the elderly) with the Social Insurance Bank (SVB)
  • The municipality or the SVB has not yet decided on your application.
  • You applied for the benefit at least 4 weeks ago.
  • The municipality or the SVB will not grant you an advance or it is too small.
  • You urgently need the advance to live. You can no longer wait.
  • The municipality or SVB has received all of the information requested of you.

You request a decision on an advance payment from your province. You can also authorise someone else. In this case, you ask someone else to request the decision for you.
