Registering a civil partnership in the Netherlands

Do you want to form a civil partnership? If so, you must first notify the municipality. You must do this at least 2 weeks and a maximum of 1 year before you want to form the civil partnership.

The registration of a civil partnership is subject to a number of conditions (in Dutch), such as:

you must be at least 18 years of age;
you cannot enter into a civil partnership with someone who is already married or in a civil partnership
you cannot be related to one other, e.g. grandparent, grandchild, parent, child or sibling.

The municipality has 4 municipal venues. The town hall in Leidschendam and in Voorburg Huize Swaensteyn and Huygens' Hofwijck form a beautiful backdrop for your special day. It is also possible to get registered for free or cheaply in a consultation room in the Service Center Leidschendam.

Your consummation lasts a maximum of 45 minutes. The ceremony consists of your arrival (10 minutes in advance), ceremony and possibly a congratulations afterwards

Registering an intended civil partnership

You register your registered partnership with the municipality where you want to conclude your partnership. You do this at the earliest 1 year and at the latest 6 weeks in advance. Call: 14 070. After the telephone conversation, you will receive a form by post that you must complete and return to us with the evidence discussed
