Registering a civil partnership in the Netherlands
Do you want to form a civil partnership? If so, you must first notify the municipality. You must do this at least 2 weeks and a maximum of 1 year before you want to form the civil partnership.
The registration of a civil partnership is subject to a number of conditions (in Dutch), such as:
- you must be at least 18 years of age;
- you cannot enter into a civil partnership with someone who is already married or in a civil partnership
- you cannot be related to one other, e.g. grandparent, grandchild, parent, child or sibling.

Do you want to formally settle the relationship with your partner? Then there are two possibilities:
- a civil marriage (marriage);
- or a civil partnership.
You enter into a marriage/civil partnership with a marriage officer of the civil registry. You can do this at the town hall or at another wedding location of your choice. At the latest 14 days before your marriage/registered partnership is concluded, you must submit a notification to the civil registrar.

You must notify the registrar of births, deaths and marriages online via the notification form of a marriage/registered partnership. After sending the notification form you will receive a written confirmation of your booking/notification within three working days. If there are any questions, you will be contacted by telephone.
You should also contact the Civil Affairs department about your wedding date. This prevents the desired date for a wedding or partnership from being fully booked. The Civil Affairs department can be reached by telephone on +31 547 - 85 85 85.
