Paying parking tax

Parking your car or other vehicle is not free everywhere and at all times in the Netherlands. In some areas and at certain times you have to pay for parking. By paying for parking you also pay parking tax (parkeerbelasting). If you do not pay for parking where and when necessary you will be charged a penalty. This penalty is called a parking ticket (parkeerbon). If you disagree with the penalty you can challenge it with the municipality.

Sometimes it is unclear whether you have paid for parking, for example if:

  • the parking attendant cannot see your parking receipt in your vehicle’s window;
  • the parking period on the receipt has expired;
  • you have not paid for your parking using a parking app;
  • you have not registered your car’s registration number in the parking app.

You will then receive a notice to pay for parking, plus the penalty.

Do you disagree with a penalty and wish to challenge it? You can contact the municipality that issued it.

Here is some information from your municipality.

Municipality of West Betuwe: Paying parking tax

If you park incorrectly or do not pay at the parking meter/parking app, you will no longer receive a paper receipt behind the windshield wiper, but a ticket with a notice of disposal, an announcement of additional parking tax.

Detect violation
The detection of a violation as mentioned above is done by the Buitengewoon OpsporingsAmbtenaar (BOA) of the municipality of West Betuwe. Anyone who has received a notice of disposition under the windshield wiper - for illegal parking, parking where a prohibition applies or causing a dangerous situation - will receive a giro collection form from the Centraal Justitieel Incassobureau (CJIB) by post. In this giro collection form you will find all information, including how you can object via the CJIB.

Parking machine

Anyone who does not pay at the parking meter/parking app or does not have the correct parking permit will receive a ticket announcing additional parking tax assessment. We call that ticket a notice of decision (parking fine or parking fine). You will then receive a giro collection form from the municipality of West Betuwe. In this giro collection form you will find all the information, including how you can object.
