Notifying the municipality when you move home

Are you moving home within the Netherlands? If so, notify the new municipality where you are going to live of your move. The new municipality will register you at your new address. You do not need to deregister from your old municipality.

The move can be notified by:

  • anyone aged 16 or older;
  • cohabiting spouses / civil partners on behalf of each other;
  • the parent, guardian or caregiver on behalf of minor children;
  • parents on behalf of adult children living with them;
  • adult children on behalf of parents living with them;
  • the conservator on behalf of a person placed under a conservatorship;
  • an authorised representative.

You must notify the new municipality where you are going to live that you are moving home. You must inform it of your new address no later than 4 weeks before the moving date, or within 5 days after the moving date.

This is how it works for you

Here is some information from your municipality.

Notifying the municipality when you move home

If you move house, you should report this to the municipality where you will live. Even if you continue to live in the same municipality, you must report this. You can report a move up to 28 days before the move until 5 days after the move. If you pass on the removal later, we will register you on the date we receive your removal. Registering a move is free of charge.

Please note! If it is a first registration or resettlement from abroad, you can only make this appointment by telephone and not online. Please contact 14 0492 for this.

Register your move digitally here (using DigiD)

  • You are 16 years of age or older.
  • You have permission from the resident if you are moving in with someone.
  • The move is notified by one of the following:
  • yourself
  • a parent, guardian or carer
  • cohabiting spouses or registered partners for each other (if they move to the new address together)
  • cohabiting parents and adult children (18+) for each other (if they move to the new address together)
  • a legal representative
  • an adult with written consent

I am moving in with someone, what do I need to watch out for?

If so, the consent of the main tenant is required. You arrange consent online with DigiD. The main tenant logs in with DigiD during your move-in declaration. If the main tenant does not log in, we will send you the form digitally when we process the move. If you have any questions, please contact our customer contact centre on 14 0492.

I am moving to a newly built house, what do I need to bear in mind?

Report that your home is ready. You can do this with the building supervisor. If the house has not been reported ready, we cannot process the removal declaration.

To whom do I send additional documents?

If you are asked to send additional documents, please send them to gemeente@helmond.nl quoting the case number.

To whom will my removal be notified?

We will inform the organisations listed below of your move, once we have processed it. You will need to inform other organisations yourself. For example, hospitals, dentists and GPs.

  • Tax Office;
  • Central Administration Office (CAK);
  • Education Executive Agency (DUO);
  • Pension funds;
  • National Road Transport Agency (RDW);
  • Social Insurance Bank (SVB);
  • Uitvoeringsinstituut Werknemersverzekeringen (UWV);
  • Health insurers.

It is free to notify a move.

We will assess a digital request the next working day. A few days after the specified moving date, you will receive written confirmation at your new address. The removal date is the date you indicate on the declaration as the date of removal. Do you report the move after five days? Then the declaration date will be recorded as the removal date.

We will process your move within five working days after the date you gave us. Is it not possible or convenient to pass on your move online? Please contact us on 14 0492 (do not put an area code in front of the number) for assistance or to make an appointment at the Stadswinkel. You cannot drop by without an appointment.
