Deregistering from the municipality in the event of a long stay outside the Netherlands

Are you going to live outside the Netherlands for at least 8 months in 1 year? If so, you must deregister from the Personal Records Database (Basisregistratie Personen – BRP). The BRP contains your personal data, such as your name, gender and date of birth. You can deregister from the BRP through the municipality where you live.

Emigration and deregistration

If you are abroad for longer than 8 months in a period of one year, you are required to unregister at the municipality. You can do this online starting from 5 days prior to your departure.

Do family members stay behind at your home address? Then you can only report the emigration in person at the city hall and everyone who is moving must come to this appointment. Please make an appointment online at the public affairs desk. Bring a valid passport or identity card per person.
