Applying for study benefit for students with a disability
Do you receive government financial support for your tertiary or secondary education? Are you unable to earn extra income due to a chronic illness or disability? Then you may be eligible for study benefit (studietoeslag) from your municipality.
In all cases, the following conditions must be met to be eligible to receive study benefit:
- you receive student finance (studiefinanciering) as a tertiary student or a basic allowance (basistoelage) for secondary students;
- you cannot earn extra income alongside your studies because of your disability.
- you are not entitled to the Wajong benefit
Ask your municipality about all the conditions that apply.
You can apply for study benefit at the municipality where you live, regardless of where you are studying.
This is how it works for you
Here is some information from your municipality.
Study allowance
Please note. You can only apply for individual study allowance if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch.
Conditions
- You live in the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch.
- You are enrolled in a recognised study programme and receive study financing or an allowance (WTOS).
- You are able to work but not in combination with your studies due to a structural medical impairment.
- You have no income from employment or self-employment.
- You do not receive any supplement or benefit from the UWV.
How do we determine whether you have a structural medical impairment?
We have this determined by independent medical examination.
Application
To apply, call the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch on +31 73 615 51 55. The employee will make an appointment for you at Weener XL. In that appointment, you will be given information about the conditions for the study allowance. This is followed by another appointment with a work consultant.
How long you will receive the study allowance
You apply for the allowance once. As long as you meet the conditions, you will receive study allowance. Does something change in your situation? This may have consequences for your study allowance. You are obliged to report a change to Weener XL. For example, if:
- You start a work placement or stop your studies.
- You start receiving income from employment or entrepreneurship.
- You are going to do voluntary work.
- You are going to move to another municipality.
How high is the study allowance?
The amount of the allowance is the minimum study allowance as determined nationally. Are you doing a work placement as part of your studies and do you receive an allowance for this? Then this allowance is partially released. If the level of the allowance and the allowance are adjusted nationally, we will also adjust them in 's-Hertogenbosch.
