Applying for a parking permit

Do you live in an area where you have to pay to park your car or other vehicle? You can apply to the municipality for a residents’ parking permit (parkeervergunning voor bewoners). If you have a residents' parking permit, you do not have to pay for parking at the parking meter or via a parking app.

A parking permit is registered to a specified vehicle registration number. If you have more than 1 car or other vehicle, you must apply for a separate parking permit for each vehicle.

Apply for a parking permit as a resident or company

Do you live or work in an area with paid parking or parking for permit holders? Then ask the municipality for a parking permit.

You can park freely with a parking permit for the paid parking zone in the center of Meerssen. In that case you do not have to pay. However, there are rules that you must adhere to. There are rules for:

  • residents
  • businesses
  • users of an incidental permit (which may not be used all the time, but may be used occasionally)
  • first-line assistance (such as an ambulance or a general practitioner)
  • employees of the municipality

People with a disabled parking card can apply for a disabled parking space on the number plate at the house. This is also possible outside the Meerssen paid parking zone. You can apply for this with the application form Disabled parking space on license plate.

The documents that you need will depend on your situation.

You own your car

If your car is registered in your name, you do not need to submit any additional documents. The municipality checks your address and the license plate during the application process.

Leased or rented cars

Is your name stated in the lease contract? If so, you must attach the lease contract or rental agreement.

If your name is not stated in the contract, you must attach the following to your application:

  • A copy of a payslip, no more than 2 months old. If you do not have a payslip yet, a  copy of your employment contract.
  • A statement from your employer. This states that you are the only employee who is allowed to drive the car. The statement must be no more than 1 month old.
  • The lease contract or rental agreement containing the name of your employer. The lease contract must be no more than 1 year old. An agreement must be no more than 1 month old.

How to apply for a parking permit:

You contact the municipality.
You need:

  • the valid registration certificate of your car

  • your valid ID

    For a temporary permit, please provide:

  • Where you want to park temporarily.

  • When and what time you want to park there.

  • Why you should park there.

A parking permit costs: € 75 per calendar year.

A parking permit for entrepreneurs, professionals and employees costs € 150.00 per calendar year.

If the permit is only applied for in the course of a year, a rate of as many twelfths as there are months remaining will apply. the current month is counted in full. However, the rate is not lower than € 10.00 for residents or € 20.00 for entrepreneurs, professionals and employees.

De gemeente beslist binnen 8 weken na ontvangst van uw aanvraag. Deze termijn mag de gemeente eenmaal verlengen.

You can object to the decision on your application. Do this within 6 weeks. Do you then disagree with the decision on the notice of objection? Then file an appeal with the court.
