  • Do you not hold Dutch citizenship? Visit your own embassy or consulate for a passport.
  • Do you live in the Netherlands on a valid residence permit? Are you unable to get a passport from your country of origin? Then you can apply for a vreemdelingenpaspoort (alien passport) at your municipality.

Here is some information from your municipality.

Applying for a new passport or renewing your old one

Please note: you can only apply for a new Dutch passport or renew your old one if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.

To travel abroad, you need a valid proof of identity. A passport is valid all over the world. A passport is also suitable as domestic proof of identity, for example if you want to open a bank account.

You have the Dutch nationality. Apply for the passport in the municipality where you live. A parent cannot apply for a passport on behalf of a child(ren). Take the child(ren) to the town hall.

You can apply for a passport at the municipality where you live.

Validity

  • An adult passport is valid for 10 years;
  • A passport for children and young people under the age of 18 is valid for 5 years.

Fingerprints

When applying for a passport, 2 fingerprints are required. This does not apply to children up to 12 years old.

Urgent request

Need a passport quickly? Make an urgent request before 2 p.m. The passport is usually ready for you the next working day.

Have you lost your old passport? Then the urgent request will take longer. You pay a surcharge for an urgent request.

Passport lost or stolen?

Report this online as soon as possible. Log in with DigiD. We will process your report quickly. The document is then invalid and no one can use it:

Don't have a DigiD? Then make an appointment at the municipality to apply for a new passport. You fill in a statement of missing person at the counter. You then immediately apply for a new passport. It is not necessary to report to the police.

Passport recovered

The passport is invalid from the moment you report the missing person. If you find it later, it is no longer usable. Hand it in to the municipality for destruction.

Physical or mental disability

Are you physically or mentally disabled and therefore unable to apply for your passport in person? An employee of the municipality can come to you and process your application. The municipality will assess whether or not you should come by in person. More information from the employees of the counter of the municipality of Moerdijk.

Traveling with children

Children must always have their own passport or identity card with them when traveling abroad. Are you traveling abroad with your children? Do you have different surnames? Then this will cause problems at passport control at the airport. You need proof that you are the father or mother, or have parental authority. You can read more information on the website of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee .

2nd passport

Some conditions apply to applying for a 2nd passport:

  • You regularly visit different countries and the stamps in your passport may cause problems when entering another country.
  • You regularly travel to countries with a visa requirement and you do not have your passport in time. For example, if your passport is at the embassy of that country.
  • Your 1st passport is still valid for at least 6 months.
  • You demonstrate with documentary evidence that you are eligible for a second passport. This can be done by analyzing the travel behavior (stamps, visas) of the current (2nd) passport. Or by requesting other supporting documents. For example: a booking for a trip to a country that conflicts with a country whose 1st passport contains a visa (list of Foreign Affairs). Or a booking of a trip and proof of a foreign representation, showing that a passport is at the embassy.

Business Passport

If you travel a lot and get a lot of stamps in your passport, your passport will become 'full'. Then request a new one in time. To prevent your passport from expiring, there is a 'business passport'. A regular passport with more pages for stamps
