Applying for an allowance for own contribution to childcare costs in the Netherlands

Do you have a lower income and do you receive childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag)? Then you can apply for an extra allowance for your own contribution to the costs of childcare. You can apply for this at your municipality.

To be eligible for the extra allowance the following conditions apply:

you must already be receiving childcare benefit from the Dienst Toeslagen;
your (joint) income must not exceed the limit. Your municipality sets the maximum amount.

Please note: you can apply for the compensation for personal contribution to kinderopvangtoeslag (childcare allowance) only if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.

You are eligible for compensation if one of the following situations applies to you and your partner:

You are a caregiver.
You need childcare for social or medical reasons and will not receive a childcare allowance from the tax authorities.
You receive social assistance benefits while you are following a reintegration process or working part-time. In that case, you apply for a reimbursement for the personal contribution that remains after you have applied for childcare allowance from the tax authorities.

You must meet the following conditions:

You receive childcare allowance from the Belastingdienst (Tax and Customs Administration).
You, your partner and your child are registered with the municipality of Tilburg.

Would you like to apply for the reimbursement for childcare? Then prepare it well:

You must have your DigiD and account number to hand.
If you have a partner, make sure you also have his/her details to hand (including social security number).
Copy of valid proof of identity or residence permit.
Copy of bank card or bank statement (only if you do not receive benefits).
Copy of proof of income (e.g. salary slip, benefit specification, pension, alimony).
Copy of contract or quotation from the childcare organization.
Copy of relevant medical statements and/or reports (if you are applying in connection with a social or medical indication).

If you have a partner, you must also include the following attachments in the application:

Copy of your partner's valid identity card or residence permit.
Copy of proof of income (for example salary slip, benefit specification, pension, alimony) from your partner.

You can apply for the compensation for the personal contribution to childcare allowance either online or by telephone.

Online

Fill out the application form on the website of the municipality of Tilburg.

The municipality will send you a letter within 8 weeks informing you whether you are entitled to the compensation for the personal contribution to childcare allowance. That letter will also state how long you will receive the contribution.

Have you received a rejection and do you disagree with it? Then you can object within 6 weeks.

Your request will be processed within 8 weeks. Have you not heard anything after 8 weeks? Then contact the municipality.
