Applying for an allowance for own contribution to childcare costs in the Netherlands
Do you have a lower income and do you receive childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag)? Then you can apply for an extra allowance for your own contribution to the costs of childcare. You can apply for this at your municipality.
To be eligible for the extra allowance the following conditions apply:
- you must already be receiving childcare benefit from the Dienst Toeslagen;
- your (joint) income must not exceed the limit. Your municipality sets the maximum amount.

Childcare and playgroups
The tax authorities sometimes reimburse part of the cost of childcare. Read more on the website of the Belastingdienst.
The municipality provides compensation for parents or single parents who temporarily need childcare. For example, because they are ill or if there are other social circumstances. This is called the childcare allowance for parents with social medical grounds.
How much allowance you receive depends on your situation. For example, what your income is and how much childcare you use. Any changes in your situation will also affect the amount of the allowance.
Always report changes in your situation immediately via My Benefits on toeslagen.nl or via the Childcare Allowance app. You will then receive the benefit to which you are entitled.
