Applying for an allowance for own contribution to childcare costs in the Netherlands

You can apply for this relief if 1 or more of the following situations applies to you and your partner, if any:

• You receive welfare benefits and are following a re-integrationprogram to go back to work.
• You receive welfare benefits and follow a mandatory citizenship course by an approved body.
• You are currently employed and are receiving additional welfare benefits
• You are currently receiving an education and are entitled to educational financing
• You are younger than 18 years old, are receiving an education and are receiving welfare benefits or are eligible for welfare benefits.
• Your child is registered with you and you are receiving child benefits.
• Your child is going to a childcare center that has been registered in the national childcare center register.

Childcare when experiencing personal problems (SMI)

Are you temporarily not able to take care of your child(ren) because you or your partner have physical, mental or social problems? And is that why you need childcare services? You won't be able to collect child benefits from the Belastingdienst, but you can apply for relief with regards to costs at your local municipality. This is done by applying for a Sociaal Medische Indicatie (SMI). This is usually arranged via the youth nurse at the GGD. The height of the relief you will be receiving is dependent on your income.

You can apply for the compensation for the personal contribution to childcare allowance by filling in the request form. You can send the form and the pieces of evidence to: Samenwerkingsorganisatie De Wolden Hoogeveen, Postbus 20.000, 7900 PA Hoogeveen. You can also send it via e-mail: kinderopvang@dewoldenhoogeveen.nl. Another option is to hand it in at the Werkplein Hoogeveen, attn. Regeling Kinderopvang, Dekkerplein 1, Hoogeveen.

Pieces of evidence

You will be expected to hand in the following pieces along with your application:

• Contract with childcare centre or childminder
• Hourly rate and timesheet of the childcare centre in 2022.
• Bank statement or a copy of your debit card. Your debit card has an IBAN number on it which we can use to deposit the compensation on your account.
• If applicable, evidence of registration at an educational institution.

The municipality will send you a letter within 8 weeks of applying informing you whether or not you are entitled to the compensation for the personal contribution to childcare allowance. That letter will also state how long you will receive the compensation.
