Applying for an allowance for own contribution to childcare costs in the Netherlands

Do you have young children and are you following a reintegration program or do you receive additional social assistance benefits in addition to your wages? Then you can apply for reimbursement for your own contribution to childcare.

Help with the costs

With the childcare contribution we want to help parents with a low income with the costs of childcare. You can apply for the childcare contribution in addition to the childcare allowance. You can apply for this allowance from the Tax Authorities.

The following costs are covered:

  • The costs of arranging the childminder organization.
  • Accommodation costs at school.
  • The personal contribution for toddler care.
  • The reimbursement of your own contribution to childcare (the difference between childcare costs and childcare allowance).

You must meet the following conditions:

  • You receive childcare allowance from the Belastingdienst (Tax and Customs Administration).
  • You, your partner and your child are registered with the municipality of Hollands Kroon.

The municipality will send you a letter within 8 weeks informing you whether you are entitled to the compensation for the personal contribution to childcare allowance. That letter will also state how long you will receive the contribution.
