Applying for an allowance for own contribution to childcare costs in the Netherlands

Do you have a lower income and do you receive childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag)? Then you can apply for an extra allowance for your own contribution to the costs of childcare. You can apply for this at your municipality.

Childcare and toddler care.

Please note: you can apply for the compensation for personal contribution to kinderopvangtoeslag (childcare allowance) only if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.

You are eligible for compensation if one of the following situations applies to you and your partner:

  • You receive bijstandsuitkering (social welfare benefits) and are following a reintegration programme to find work.
  • You receive social welfare benefits and are following a mandatory inburgering (civic integration) programme with an approved institution.
  • You work and receive supplementary social welfare benefits.
  • You are studying and earn the minimum wage.
  • You are under the age of 27, have no basic qualifications and are receiving support from the municipality to return to education.
  • Your social welfare benefits are going to cease because you have found a job. In that situation, you will receive a one-off payment of € 300,-.

You must meet the following conditions:

  • You receive childcare allowance from the Belastingdienst.
  • You, your partner and your child are registered with the municipality.

Your application will not be processed without the attachments below.

  • The fully completed application form.
  • The advice of a medical and/or psychological treatment process outside the home, a written statement from the institution stating the scope and expected duration of the treatment process or a written statement by a professional stating the expected duration of the problem.
  • A copy of your childcare contract(s) or a current quote.
  • A copy of the most recent annual statement(s) of your (family) income or income statement(s) from the Tax Authorities.

Send the application form for Social Medical Indication, completed in full, to info@gemeentehw.nl.

The municipality will send you a letter within 8 weeks informing you whether you are entitled to the compensation for the personal contribution to childcare allowance. That letter will also state how long you will receive the contribution.

Please include the following information in your objection:

  • your name and address
  • the date of your objection
  • which decision is involved
  • why you do not agree with the decision
  • your signature

The notice of objection must be submitted to the municipality by post, by e-mail it is not possible to object. The municipality of Hoeksche Waard is advised by an Objections Committee.
