Applying for an allowance for own contribution to childcare costs in the Netherlands

Do you have a lower income and do you receive childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag)? Then you can apply for an extra allowance for your own contribution to the costs of childcare. You can apply for this at your municipality.

To be eligible for the extra allowance the following conditions apply:

you must already be receiving childcare benefit from the Dienst Toeslagen;
your (joint) income must not exceed the limit. Your municipality sets the maximum amount.

Money for childcare during schooling or reintegration

You receive childcare allowance from the Belastingdienst, but this is not enough. If you following an education or are reintegrating at work, you may be able to get extra money from the municipality. This is called 'reimbursement of the personal contribution for childcare costs'.

You can apply if 1 of these things applies to you:

You are looking for work or following a reintegration program. Reintegration is returning to a job after you have been unemployed or sick for a longer period of time, and:
- You receive benefits from:
  - Participation Act (PW: 'bijstand') or
  - Income provision for older and partially disabled unemployed workers (IOAW) or
  - Income provision for elderly and partially disabled former self-employed persons (IOAZ) or
  - General Surviving Dependants Act (Anw)
You are 17 years old or younger, you are taking a course and you receive (or could receive) social assistance benefit
You are taking a civic integration course under the Civic Integration Act and you receive social assistance benefit
You are not entitled to benefit, you are registered with the UWV and you are following a reintegration program
You are following a course of study and you receive benefits under the Student Finance Act 2000 (WSF) or the Education Contribution and Study Costs Act (WTOS).
You have an income from work and you also receive social assistance benefit
You were receiving benefits under the PW, IOAW, IOAZ or Anw, but these have stopped because you have found work. You have an income up to 110% of the social assistance standard applicable to you
