Applying for an allowance for own contribution to childcare costs in the Netherlands
Do you have a lower income and do you receive childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag)? Then you can apply for an extra allowance for your own contribution to the costs of childcare. You can apply for this at your municipality.
To be eligible for the extra allowance the following conditions apply:
- you must already be receiving childcare benefit from the Dienst Toeslagen;
- your (joint) income must not exceed the limit. Your municipality sets the maximum amount.

Applying for an allowance for own contribution to childcare costs
Do your children attend childcare? If so, you may be able to get childcare allowance. This is a contribution to the cost of childcare.
Are you eligible for childcare allowance? Check the website of the Tax Administration to see if you are entitled to childcare allowance and apply for it straight away. Go to the website toeslagen.nl/kinderopvangtoeslag here.
How much allowance you will receive depends on your situation. For example, how much childcare you expect to need each month. If anything changes in your situation, this will also affect the amount of your benefit. Always report changes, such as the amount of your income and childcare hours, immediately via My Benefits on toeslagen.nl or the Childcare Allowance app. Then you will receive the benefit to which you are entitled. Neither too much nor too little.
Do you receive benefits and are you following a work and/or educational track? If so, you may be able to get a contribution towards the costs of childcare in addition to the childcare allowance from the Tax Administration.
