Applying for an allowance for own contribution to childcare costs in the Netherlands

Do you have a lower income and do you receive childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag)? Then you can apply for an extra allowance for your own contribution to the costs of childcare. You can apply for this at your municipality.

Please note: you can apply for the compensation for personal contribution to kinderopvangtoeslag (childcare allowance) only if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.

You are eligible for compensation if one of the following situations applies to you and your partner:

  • Are younger than 18 years old, have social assistance and are following a course
  • Are a student at an educational institution that is mentioned in the Student Finance Act (Wsd) or the Education Contributions and School Expenses Act (Wtos) and only has income from student finance
  • Are you following a (re)integration process and receiving social assistance or if you receive an IOAW, IOAZ or General Surviving Dependents Act?

You must meet the following conditions:

  • You receive childcare allowance from the Belastingdienst (Tax and Customs Administration).
  • You, your partner and your child are registered with the municipality of Almelo.
