Applying for a business passport in the Netherlands

Do you hold Dutch citizenship? Do you travel a lot outside the Netherlands on business and get a lot of visas in your passport? If so, you can apply for a zakenpaspoort (business passport). Business passports have more pages and more space for visas.

You apply for a business passport at the municipality where you live. Do you hold Dutch citizenship but have no fixed address in the Netherlands? If so, you can apply for a business passport at a grensgemeente (border municipality). You can do this when visiting the Netherlands.

Applying for a business passport

Please note: you can only apply for a Dutch zakenpaspoort (business passport) if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.

You must apply for a business passport in person at the municipality where you live. Make an appointment to apply for a passport.

Urgent request

If you need your passport quickly, you can make an urgent application. If you apply for the passport before 14.00, you will be able to collect it the next working day. Allow for some delay if you no longer have your old passport.

You pay a fee for this service. For more information, contact the municipality.

You can collect the passport from the municipality after around a week. You have 3 months in which to collect your new passport.

Validity

A business passport is valid for 10 years.

Objection

If you do not agree with this decision, you can submit a notice of objection. You need to do this within six weeks from the date on which the decision was sent.

In the notice of objection you need to mention:

-       The date on which you write your notice;

-       Your name and address;

-       With which decision you disagree;

-       The reasons on which you disagree with the decision.

The notice of objection must bear you signature.

 Submitting a notice of objection does not suspend the decision. This means the decision, against which you lodge a complaint, will have effect during the procedure of objection.

Urgent?

If you think the decision needs to be changed quickly to prevent irreversible consequences you can apply for provisional relief with the administrative court. This is an emergency procedure in which the judge can take measures to prevent irreversible consequences. To apply for provisional relief you need to pay a court fee. If you wish to apply for provisional relief you also need to send a letter to the preliminary relief judge of the Court ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Postbus 90125, 5200 MA ’s-Hertogenbosch.
