Applying for an affordable housing permit

Do you want to rent affordable, social housing? In some municipalities you need anaffordable housing permit (huisvestingsvergunning) for this. Check with your municipality whether this applies in your municipality. If necessary, apply to your municipality for the affordable housing permit.

Are you going to rent social housing from a housing corporation (woningbouwcorporatie)? Then in many municipalities you do not need an affordable housing permit, but in some you do. Check with your municipality.

The eligibility conditions for an affordable housing permit differ depending on the municipality. Eligibility criteria may stipulate that:

  • you work or study in the municipality or region;
  • you already live (or have lived) in the municipality or region;
  • the property matches your income and the size of your family.

Municipality of Bodegraven-Reeuwijk: Applying for an affordable housing permit

Please note: you can apply for an affordable housing permit only if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with a municipality.

Are you going to rent subsidised housing in the municipality of Bodegraven-Reeuwijk? If so, you will need a huisvestingsvergunning (affordable housing permit) in the following situations:

  • the basic rent of the housing is no more than € 808.06 per month.

This does not apply to:
a. accommodation of landlords who rent out three or fewer homes in the municipality below the rent allowance limit; 
b. Dependent living space; 
c. lodging; 
d. home exchange with the consent of the landlord; 
e. moving within the same complex with the landlord's permission; 
f. care homes; 
g. staff residences; 
h. living space as referred to in Article 15, first paragraph, under a to d, of the Vacancy Act; 
i. living space that is rented out on the basis of a temporary lease j. berths for houseboats and stands for caravans.

To be eligible for an affordable housing permit, you must meet the following conditions:

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You are registered in the Municipal Personal Records Database in a municipality in the Netherlands; 
  • You must have responded to accommodation offered per publication and be eligible for the accommodation in question.
