Applying for a certificate of marital status in the United Kingdom

Are you a Dutch national living in the United Kingdom (UK) and do you need a certificate of marital status (certificate of no impediment)? The Dutch embassy in London does not issue this certificate. You can apply for the certificate in the UK at the General Register Office.

Warning: If you are registered in the Personal Records Database (BRP) in the Netherlands, apply for this document from the municipality where you are registered. You may need to have the declaration/certificate translated and legalised before you can use it outside the Netherlands.

Apply to the General Register Office for a no trace marriage letter. You can only apply by calling the office.

Check the General Register Office website for contact details.

In case you want to use the certificate in the Netherlands, you will have to have it legalised with an apostille.
