What do embassies and consulates do for Dutch nationals abroad?
Dutch nationals abroad can contact the local Dutch embassy or consulate for matters ranging from passports and consular declarations to help in an emergency.
Consular declarations and certificates
Dutch embassies and consulates can issue Dutch nationals with the following types of consular declaration/certificate:
- certificate of residence
- declaration of marital status
- certificate of the capacity to contract marriage
- certificate of life
- certificate of Dutch nationality
Please note, embassies and consulates must respect the host country’s laws.
Passports and identity cards
Dutch nationals living abroad can also apply for a passport or ID card at the embassy or consulate.
Legalising documents
Dutch embassies can also legalise documents.
